“The Wreck” to reopen again today
Today is the big day: After being closed for 15 months, one of the most renowned Swakopmund Restaurants, “The Wreck” located at the Beach Lodge, will once again officially reopen on 1 July. “We are very excited,” said owner André van Rensburg to namib times yesterday.
The news of the reopening first broke in March this year, whereafter van Rensburg started hiring new staff and commencing with the training process. “Initially we planned a few soft-openings, but we now decided to rather just have a grand reopening,” he said. As it was the case before, the kitchen will be run by head chef Anthony Rossouw. “We only hope to uphold the same standard as before and that we can become a top restaurant at the coast again,” van Rensburg continued. All in all he created more than 20 job opportunities. “We wish to say ‘Thank you’ to everyone who has supported us and who will continue supporting us,” he said. The restaurant which offers a unique view of the Atlantic Ocean was forced to close its doors after a judgement in the Supreme Court. A dispute between the owner of the adjacent erf ultimately led up to the case. The restaurant will officially open its doors at 17:30. “We will be open this Friday and Saturday and then again from Monday onwards as usual,” van Rensburg said, but it might take a while for the public to enjoy the good cuisine. “We are already fully booked for the weekend,” the owner concluded.
