Three children and woman die in head-on collision near Arandis

A head-on collision on the B2 between Arandis and Usakos in the early hours of Monday morning claimed the lives of four people – three children and a woman. Various emergency and rescue services from the region responded to the scene which was described as “horrific.”
Exact details about the accident remained sketchy yesterday. While the police confirmed that it was indeed a head-on collision that took place, the exact events leading up to the accident were still being investigated. Preliminary reports indicated that the driver of a VW Polo whilst travelling on the B2 lost control over the vehicle for unknown reasons. The car overturned on the road and skid across the tarmac, ploughing head-on into a red Nissan pick-up. The accident took place about five kilometres from Arandis towards Usakos at about 4:30 yesterday.
The impact was so severe that the Polo apparently “rolled” over the pick-up, instantly killing the four occupants, who were sitting on the back of the pick-up. The driver of the pick-up as well as a baby boy, who was seated in the front of the pick-up sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a hospital in Swakopmund.
The driver of the Polo, who was the sole occupant, sustained less serious. Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo, confirmed the accident. The names of the deceased were not yet known.
