Tragedy strikes Husab

Swakop Uranium confirmed that a fatal vehicle accident occurred on the Husab mine’s premises late yesterday afternoon (29 October 2018). An ore haul truck steered out of control and hit the cliff face of the open pit, killing the driver on impact. The spokesperson for Swakop Uranium, Percy McCallum, confirmed the incident in a press statement earlier today.

The deceased was identified as Manfred Gaoseb (42).

According to McCallum, who is the Vice President and spokesperson of the company, emergency procedures were activated. The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Ministry of Labour and the Namibian Police were notified and is kept updated as an investigation into the incident unfolds.

“The directors of the company and all employees express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mr. Gaoseb”, McCallum concluded.
