Rudi Bowe

The Roads Authority’s transport inspectors, last Wednesday redirected all trucks that transport salt from the Walvis Bay Salt Refiners to the Harbour in Walvis Bay to the Walvis Bay Weighbridge.

Principal Transport Inspectors at the Walvis Bay Weighbridge said that it is normal practice to redirect trucks at any given time to the nearest weighbridge.
These practices are empowered by the Road Traffic & Transport Act of 1999 (RTTA); the Road Traffic & Transport Regulations of 1999 (RTTR) and the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977 (CPA), the RTTI is responsible for the control of overloading thereby reducing road damage. Furthermore, the RTTI is responsible to contribute to road safety by enforcing quality systems; enforce road transport permit regulations and road user charges.
