Two families were plunged into mourning and despair this week, after a child was knocked over and killed by a vehicle at Arandis on Wednesday and a second child run over and seriously injured in Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond suburb. The incident sparked renewed concerns over driver awareness and general road safety.

A case of Culpable homicide and Reckless and or Negligent driving was opened against Asser Nekongo (26). Ne-kongo bumped the six-year-old while he was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing on Wednesday 10 July.
The little boy was rushed to the Arandis state clinic but passed away on arrival. The next of kin were informed.
In a separate incident at Tutaleni in Kuisebmond, an eight-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was run over while crossing a street.
The young school-girl sustained serious injuries when the driver of a silver Toyota RunX bumped her while she was crossing Fisant street close to the Tutaleni Primary School early on Monday morning. The girl was taken to the Walvis Bay state hospital and later she was transferred to Katatura state hospital in Windhoek for further treatment.
The driver was at the scene, but no arrests were made. The case will first be investigated and then it will be forwarded to the local Control Prosecutor’s office for a decision.
