Two die on road leading to Skeleton Coast Park

Two people passed away on Tuesday morning after a vehicle accident on the salt road between Henties Bay and the gate leading to the Skeleton Coast Park. Two other occupants of the vehicle, including a two-year old boy were injured.

According to the police report the accident occurred at about 9:30, 92 kilometers from Henties Bay. It is alleged the driver, David Byl (26), lost control over his vehicle, a dark blue Toyota Corolla (N 18637 S), after a tyre blow-out. The vehicle left the road and overturned.
Byl as well as the passenger, Matheus Haufiku (45), died at the scene. Kavira Sadnag (34) and the child were initially transported to Swakopmund state hospital for medical treatment.
Sadnag’s condition has been described as stable. The boy was transferred to Windhoek in a critical condition, as he sustained life-threatening injuries.
The deceaseds’ bodies were transported to the police mortuary for a post mortem to be conducted. The next of kin have been informed.
