Two more lives lost in accidents
A serious accident was reported on the B2 early Friday evening between Arandis and Usakos when a NDF Toyota Hilux collided head on with a Hyundai. The Hilux carried eight occupants including the driver and the Hyundai was occupied by the driver only.
The driver of the Hyundai, Manfred Murangi (40), was trapped in the vehicle. He died on the scene of his injuries. The occupants of the Hilux sustained minor injuries. A case of culpable homicide has been opened and investigations continue.
Meanwhile, another fatality was reported on the B2 near the Swakopmund Bridge on Friday evening at approximately 23:00. It is alleged that a passenger of a taxi travelling from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund suddenly opened one of the passenger doors and tried to disembark. The driver slowed down, but when the passenger jumped out of the vehicle and started to run, he was knocked over by a vehicle.
The passenger, identified as Shilenga Jonas Hehongo (29), sustained severe injuries and died at the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services. The driver of the vehicle that ran over Hehonga, Festus Kweyo (26), was arrested and face charges of of culpable homicide and driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.
