Two suicides in Swakopmund

Swakopmund was hit by yet another suicide, when a 29-year-old man took his own life by hanging himself on Wednesday evening. The incident took place at about 18:00 in Immanuel Khambo Street, in the Mondesa suburb of Swakopmund. The deceased, Martin Jos Bakas Hamaseb, was found by family members hanging from the roof of his locked bedroom. The deceased did in fact leave a note, but the reason behind his suicide is still unknown. The next of kin have been informed.

This incident comes only two days after a 81-year-old man died at his own hand on Monday morning, by shooting himself with a pistol, Joachim Adalbert Kulik ended his own life in front of the apartment he was renting in Waterbank Street, Kramersdorf, Swakopmund.
The deceased was found in a pool of blood, with the pistol in his hand by a domestic worker around 10:00 on Monday. The domestic worker was alerted by the sound of the gun going off, while she was busy cleaning in the main house. She immediately informed the landlord of what had happened, and the police were summoned. What led to the suicide is unknown, as no note was left behind, although the landlord told police that she had noticed Kulik behaving very strange in the days leading up to the incident. Kulik lived alone and his only brother currently resides in Germany. No foul play is suspected, but the investigation continues. The body was taken to Walvis Bay Police Mortuary for postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
