Ugab reaches the sea

The Ugab River reached the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday morning. It is the first river to reach the sea during this rainy season. The river’s mouth is just south of the main gate of the Skeleton Coast National Park.

Other reports over the past few days indicate the Omaruru River has reached the Omdel dam, while the Kuiseb River is also still flowing but still has a long way to go before it would reach the Rooibank area. The Swakop and Khan Rivers were both flowing at Usakos over the past few days, but have not reached Goanikontes yet. “The Ugab is still flowing at a section between Khorixas and Uis,” said Uis resident Basil Calitz yesterday.
