Vehicle accident claims another well known resident of Walvis Bay
The Walvis Bay community is once more reeling in shock and disbelief after another well known resident died in a vehicle accident over the weekend.
Mrs. Vanessa Erasmus, an organiser of the annual Namport Erongo Business and Tourism was killed on Saturday afternoon when the vehicle in which she was a passenger overturned on the B2 between Karibib and Usakos. The vehicle was driven by her husband Mr. Joey Erasmus. He lost control of the vehicle when he had to swerve out to prevent a collision with an oncoming truck.
Erasmus was declared dead at the scene, while her husband was transported to Usakos Hospital. Erasmus and her husband were en route to Cape Town for vacation when the incident occurred.
Erasmus is well known for her position at Expo Studio as Administrator, and her part as one of the main organizers of the Annual Namport Erongo Business and Tourism Expo. She started her career at Expo Studio in 2012. Erasmus is originally from Cape Town, South Africa, but relocated to Walvis Bay after being married to Mr Erasmus. She leaves behind her husband, 4 children, 2 grandchildren, her mother and grandmother.
“Vanessa was a very diligent and hard working employee with a zest for life. No task or challenge was ever too big for her to master. She was the backbone of the expo, and a complete joy to have worked with. Not only was she excellent on her position, but as a friend and mentor, she was one in a million. We are in a state of shock and disbelief.
The sudden passing of Vanessa, or as we all used to call her, ‘”Aunty V”, leaves a massive hole in not only the industry, but amongst friends and family, and everyone who came into contact with her. We pray for strength and guidance to the bereaved family and friends. May her beautiful soul rest in peace,” was commented by Eddie Stevens from Expo Studio.
∙On 16 March this year well known Walvis Bay businesswoman, Mrs. Connie Olivier of Magic Discounters was killed when her vehicle slammed into a truck on the B2 coastal road. With this still fresh in the memory, Walvis Bay residents were again confronted with the sad news of Mrs. Erasmus’ passing in a vehicle accident also involving a truck.
