A 94-year-old Walvis Bay resident was murdered in his children’s house at Okahandja on Wednesday. Mr Simon Ihulu, also known by the nickname “2Bob”, went to visit his children when he was murdered by intruders during a burglary.

The late Mr Ihulu’s son-in-law yesterday confirmed the incident and explained he and his wife went to work on the morning of 3 July. The “old man” as they fondly referred to him was visiting them from Walvis Bay and he stayed alone at home for the day.
Sometime later people broke open a garage on the premises. The thugs pretended to be working in the garage and used it as a disguised opportunity to break open the house.
They found Mr Ihulu in the house and tied his hands behind his back.
They then stuffed a piece of cloth into his mouth and tied another cloth around his head. Mr Ihulu suffocated as a result.
According to his son-in-law the thugs ran-sacked the house mainly to get their hands on cash. That included cash from the helpless elderly man’s trouser pockets. Apart from cash, Ihulu’s daughter-in-law’s perfumes were stolen.
Namib Times was informed the Namibian Police at Okahandja is following up every lead possible. Several people had already been questioned over the incident, but no one could be linked to the crime yet.
Meanwhile, Kuisebmond’s closely knit community expressed their anger and shock at the murder. Ihulu was a well-respected member of the Walvis Bay community and no person deserve his or her life being ended in such a horrible way.
