Walvis Bay sewerage accident

A municipal employee and the employee of a contractor was killed in an accident at the Walvis Bay municipal sewerage shortly after mid-day yesterday. It is believed they were overcome by sewer gas whilst working in a pump station sump.

It is believed their exposure to the sewer gas (which is odourless) caused the men to fall unconscious and they then fell into the water and drowned. On the picture: People at the scene of the accident yesterday…
