Walvis Bay town council distances itself from Janet Martin Foundation

Residents at their own risk if they register for housing at the Foundation

Walvis Bay mayor, Cllr Trevino Forbes, says the Walvis Bay municipal council is distancing itself from the former deputy-mayor of the town, Penny Martin-Louw’s efforts to compile a list to determine how many people in the harbour town needs housing.

Martin, who served as deputy-mayor under the Swapo-led town council, is using her Janet Martin Foundation to compile the list.  “Residents are advised this exercise has not been endorsed by Council, nor was Council informed of this exercise. Those registering themselves are doing so at their own risk and the municipality of Walvis Bay will not be held liable for any activities undertaken by the Janet Martin Foundation”, Cllr. Forbes explained at the last monthly council meeting.
Mayor Forbes also made use of the opportunity to assure the public of Walvis Bay that Council is investigating several options for housing projects. Several public meetings (considering Covid-19 safety protocols) will be conducted in the foreseeable future to inform residents of these options.
