“We have a President”

President Hage Geingob was inaugurated into his second and last term as Head of State of the Republic of Namibia on Saturday. The event was somewhat different this year. There was no independence celebrations due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the state of emergency imposed on Namibia which bans the congregation of more than fifty people, as part of the fight against the pandemic.

The President’s inauguration took place at State House in Windhoek, but at the time of going to press yesterday a State House spokesperson was yet to return a call made by Namib Times to discuss rumours the ceremony was attended by hundreds of people (a violation of the ban on the number of people that can gather) and secondly that the public gathering ban hampered the opposition parties to demonstrate at State House against President Geingob’s inauguration.
