Willem van Bergen dies in Cape Town.

The death occurred in Cape Town yesterday of Mr Willem van Bergen, a man who over many decades earned a reputation as among the foremost pelagic vessel owners and skippers.

Mr van Bergen was 78 years old. He died of heart failure.
Mr van Bergen operated from Saint Helena Bay on the Cape West Coast for several years now where he caught fish for Suid-Oranje Visserye.
His pelagic purse seiner Lisa-Anne sailed under the name Hoddevik when Mr van Bergen was still catching pilchard from Walvis Bay. Mr van Bergen leaves behind his wife Mrs Denise van Bergen, a well known former Walvis Bay town Councillor and local authority politician. He also leaves behind one daughter, Julie and four sons, John, Basil, Richard and Markus, as well as a son-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
