Wilna holds onto the reigns at 11th Hollard Coastal Open Championships
Rossmund Golf Course played host over the weekend to the 11th Hollard Insurance Ladies Coastal Open. A field of 22 ladies from Omeya, Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay and Rossmund entered, being an official event on the NALGU calendar there was the additional incentive of Merit List Points.
The tournament this year was also the First Leg of the 2017 Namibian Breweries Green Jacket. Play commenced on Saturday morning around 8 o’clock weather conditions were excellent for golf, overcast with a slight breeze coming in from the north the course was well prepared and in excellent condition the greens running fast and firm. Wilna having just returned from a stint on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa posted a first round score of 81 gross finishing 4 shots ahead of her nearest rival Wilma van der Merwe.
Hot and sunny was the order of the day on Sunday with a promise of some wind when the players reached the back nine as usual Diffie had everything under control and was there on the course to provide the players with well needed drinks by No.7. Wilna managed to keep her cool shooting a 84 gross to secure the Championship by 10 shots over Wilma. As always the players were showered with lots of sur-prises both on and off the course by sponsor Hollard.
The tournament was rounded off with a fantastic prize-giving function which included lunch and some information from NALGU representative Brenda Lens on where Ladies Golf is today and their ideas for the future. She made mention of all our young golfers ( Andrea, Jessica, Caro, Laetitia and Bonita) who have spread their wings to pastures new and wished them well. As always a big word of thanks to Diffie, Berndine, and the rest of the Hollard Team you make this event something special and definitely the highlight on the Ladies Calendar. Diffie commented that for him and Berndine it has become a family affair and they look forward to seeing all the old faces and make no mistake he never misses a new one greeting all with a warm smile and a hug. He looks forward to seeing you again in 2018.
