World Ocean Day…

World Oceans Day, celebrated each year on 8 June, is a rather big event in Walvis Bay this year. This day serves every year to remind humans around the globe of the direct link there is to be drawn between the health of the human race and the health of our oceans.

Particularly plastic pollution of our oceans. The celebrations this year start today already with a mass beach clean-up of the Independence beach north of Walvis Bay and ends on Sunday with the finals of a soccer tournament that was organised just for this occasion.
On Saturday, the official day of World Ocean Day, proceedings move to the Kuisebmond stadium where the public would be addressed among others by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernard Esau and the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta. It is expected Minister Esau will put strong emphasis on the Blue Economy principle towards which Namibia works.
