Antonov 225 touches down to deliver “war materials” in the fight against Covid-19

A consignment of emergency medical equipment to protect frontline health workers in Namibian medical facilities against a Covid-19 infection arrived in the country yesterday.
The cargo was transported to Namibia from Germany on the world’s largest transport airplane, the Antonov-225 Mryia. It touched down at the Chief Hosea Kutako International Airport at Windhoek.
The plane can carry approximately 250 tons of cargo and its empty weight is also 250 tons.
A total of 300 000 gowns, 60 care beds, 40 000 antigen rapid tests, 20 000 safety goggles and 500 000 FFP2 masks formed part of this consignment.
Namibia’s Health Minister in receiving the consignment thanked the international donors and added the equipment will be distributed to health centres across Namibia immediately.
