Young Erongo footballers off ro Mauritania
Seven under 20 football players from the Erongo region are included in the Namibian U/20 national football team, ‘the Young Warriors’ that will compete in the U/20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hosted from 14 February and 4 March 2021 in Mauritania.

It will be the first time for Namibia to make an appearance at the tournament, which is held every two years and sees the top-four finishers qualifying for the Fifa U/20 World Cup.
Namibia booked her place at this year’s U/20 AFCON after reaching the finals of the last year’s Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) U/20 Cup held in South Africa.
Head coach of the Young Warriors James Britz said competition will be tough as countries will equally come well prepared and eager to do well and qualify for the FIFA U/20 World Cup 2021in Indonesia later this year.
A confident Britz said “We will go out there and compete, I know it won’t be easy, but we want to go there and get the needed results. We ready to go and compete with Africa’s biggest teams.”
Britz said “We have a good team and making our first appearance as a country and the boys will surely plan to impress and leave a mark on the continent. We face two other debutants in Tunisia and CAR and so it will be equal footing.”
Britz added “We are going early to make sure we acclimatize well and see if we can get in a friendly or two before the finals starts”.

Namibia is in Group B with Tunisia, Central Africa Republic (CAR) and Burkina Faso with the host nation, Mauritania in Group A with Cameroon, Uganda and Mozambique, Group C is made up of Ghana, Tanzania, Gambia, Morocco.
The Young Warriors will begin their campaign against Central African Republic, before facing Tunisia in their second game and will conclude the group stages with Burkina Faso. Report from NFA.
