Youngsters beat Welwitchians

The Welwitschia cricket team hosted the Namibian under 19 team at the coast in a match which does not count towards the log since the youngsters are competing by invitation and do not form part of the league.
The Namibia under nineteen’s scored an impres-sive 112-run victory against Welwitschia in a friendly match at the coast in Namibia youngsters were all out for 289 runs with the Welwitschias all out for 177.

Opener Dian Neethling (75) and Jan Izak de Villiers (87) led the u 19 team’s charge, with especially De Villiers in fine form. His 87 runs came off only 62 balls and included five fours and six sixes.

The Welwitschia started great as Lauritz Haccou and Kian Beyer put on 123 runs for the opening wicket and with another 23 runs contributed by Beyer with Marco Malan (3/64) the Welwitschia’s best bowler.

Haccou blazed his way to 102 off 76 balls (8 x 4, 7 x 6) and then it was all the way down hill as the rest of the Welwitschia’s innings collapsed and they were all out for 177.

The best bowler for the youngsters was Eric Wilson with three wickets for 42 runs.
