The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) has reached another significant milestone in its port modernisation programme with the successful delivery of next generation reach stackers at the Port of Walvis Bay.

The new equipment was supplied by Forklift Allied Equipment, a long-standing strategic partner in Namport’s ongoing fleet modernisation efforts. The delivery reflects the Port Authority’s continued commitment to investing in advanced technologies that support smart engineering, operational efficiency, and improved safety standards across its operations. The newly commissioned machines are E-Series telescopic reach stackers, designed to meet modern port performance requirements. They are capable of handling containers weighing up to 45 tonnes in the first row and 32 tonnes in the second row, with stacking capability of up to five containers high.

This enhanced capacity significantly improves terminal stacking density and operational flexibility, particularly in high-volume cargo handling environments. From an operational standpoint, the reach stackers introduce several technological upgrades aimed at boosting productivity while reducing risk. These include enhanced braking systems that provide superior control and stopping performance, improved lighting systems for safer and more efficient night-time operations, upgraded spreader technology for greater precision and reliability in container handling, and integrated camera systems that support safer reversing and improved situational awareness for operators. Collectively, these features strengthen Namport’s ability to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable port services, while minimising equipment downtime and operational risks.

The investment underscores Namport’s alignment with international port standards and smart port principles. By deploying technologically advanced container handling equipment, the Port Authority aims to improve vessel turnaround times, enhance overall terminal efficiency, and further position Namibia as a competitive regional logistics and trade hub. Namport has commended Forklift Allied Equipment for the timely delivery of the reach stackers and expressed appreciation for the continued partnership, which plays a key role in supporting operational excellence and innovation across Namibia’s ports.
