About Namib Times
The Namib Times was established in 1958 as a community newspaper, primarily serving the coastal communities of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Henties Bay, and surrounding areas. Founded by Paul Vincent and Jean Fischer, it is the second-oldest newspaper in Namibia, and remains the only dedicated community newspaper in the Erongo Region.
In 2002, the Namib Times entered a new era under the ownership of two local entrepreneurs, Dr Dean Kock and Mr Desmond Frankfort, who recognised the publication’s unique value not only as a business but as a vital voice for the coastal community.
Since its inception, the Namib Times was published twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, serving as a consistent source of news for the coastal community. However, since 2020, following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the newspaper has transitioned to a single weekly edition, now published every Friday.
The Namib Times office is situated in Walvis Bay, where a dedicated team of ? employees ensures the newspaper reaches the community every Friday. While printing takes place in Windhoek, the Namib Times newspaper is on shop shelves and street corners by 7:00 every Friday morning. A total of 4 000 copies are distributed weekly across Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Henties Bay, Arandis, Usakos, Karibib, and Windhoek.
With its diverse mix of advertising and editorial content, the Namib Times continues to embody the spirit of a true local newspaper, one that connects and informs a close-knit readership spanning several generations.
