The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Erongo Region today held an engagement meeting with taxi and bus drivers at the Multi-Purpose Centre in Mondesa, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fight against crime on Tuesday this week.

The meeting brought together transport operators and law enforcement officials, including members of the Swakopmund Traffic Department, to discuss safety concerns and explore ways to work more closely in addressing criminal activities in the region. Discussions focused on current crime challenges as well as emerging trends affecting communities across Erongo.

Authorities highlighted the need for improved information sharing and vigilance, particularly in areas where transport operators are often the first to observe suspicious activity. Police officials emphasised that taxi and bus drivers are key partners in maintaining public safety due to their constant presence on the roads and daily interaction with the public. “This sector is the eyes and ears on the ground. Strengthening this relationship is essential in preventing and responding to crime more effectively,” it was noted during the engagement.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by NamPol to build stronger partnerships with stakeholders and enhance safety across the region. Authorities encouraged continued collaboration and open communication between drivers and law enforcement to ensure safer communities for all.
