The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has announced the temporary appointment of Swakopmund Municipality Chief Executive Officer Alfeus Archie Benjamin as a member and chairperson of its board, effective from 28 July until 31 December 2026.
The appointment was made by the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Dr Sanet Steenkamp, following the expiry of the terms of office of five board members on 30 June. Their departure left the Commission without the minimum number of members required to form a quorum. According to the NSC, the interim appointment will ensure continuity in governance and oversight while the Commission continues to fulfil its mandate of developing, regulating and promoting sport in Namibia.
Benjamin brings extensive executive leadership experience to the role as Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality of Swakopmund, where he oversees the municipality’s administration, strategic planning and implementation of council policies. His expertise includes strategic leadership, financial and human resource management, policy implementation, institutional development and service delivery.
The NSC said it is confident Benjamin’s leadership will provide stability during the interim period while maintaining the organisation’s commitment to sound corporate governance.
The Namibia Sport Commission serves as the umbrella and regulatory body for all recognised sporting codes in the country and plays a central role in the administration and development of sport nationwide.
