Namibia’s Head of Mission at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Joseph Amakali, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the disqualification of para-athlete Ananias Shikongo from the men’s T12 100m heats in Glasgow, Scotland.

Shikongo was disqualified after competing in Heat 2 on Wednesday, ending his hopes of progressing in one of Namibia’s key para-athletics events at the Games. Speaking after the race, Amakali explained the reason behind the decision by officials, saying the disqualification was made in accordance with the competition’s technical regulations.

He added that while the outcome was disappointing for both the athlete and Team Namibia, the delegation respects the officials’ decision and remains focused on the remainder of the Games.

Shikongo, one of Namibia’s most accomplished para-athletes, had been aiming to make another strong impression on the international stage after representing the country with distinction at previous major championships.

Despite the setback, Team Namibia has expressed its continued support for the veteran sprinter as the national team continues its Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow.
