The Erongo Police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula has confirmed the arrest of two suspects following yesterday’s car-chase involving the suspects, Nampol, security services and the Swakopmund Neighbourhood Watch.

The car-chase, from the Swakopmund central business district to the town’s Mondesa suburb ended in a dramatic crash in Waterberg Street.

According to Shomongula the suspects broke the right canopy window of a vehicle parked in Bismarck Street in front of Woermanhaus between 14:00 and 14:30 and stole properties to the value of N$65 900. They then drove off with their getaway vehicle, but police and security services were swift to respond and a wild car-chase through the streets of Swakopmund followed.

The suspects bumped a taxi, and the driver lost control of the vehicle which ended up in a yard, about 30 meters away, where they were also arrested.

“It is alleged that some of the stolen property, valued at N$51 000 were recovered and two Namibian males aged 29 and 30 years were arrested. A case of theft out of motor vehicle is being investigated,” the official police report states.

The complainant is a 22-year-old French National.
