The Erongo Regional Council’s Directorate of Education officially commenced with the construction of two new schools in Swakopmund’s DRC informal settlement early this year and the project is well on track.
This major N$50 million educational development is currently under construction on Erf 10907, Extension 42 in the DRC informal settlement. The project features both a new primary and secondary school aimed at easing the chronic shortage of school placements for children in the rapidly expanding area. The Primary School’s facilities will include 27 standard classrooms, science and computer labs, and administration blocks, with the Secondary School’s facilities to boast 26 high school classrooms, specialized laboratories, and administration blocks. Completion of the project is targeted for the end of this year.
This multi-classroom complex complements the recently completed N$25 million Horizon Primary School (also known as the Open Doors Education Centre) located in the heart of the DRC, which was officially inaugurated in June 2026.
