Residents of Farm 37 Portion 10 in Walvis Bay now have public lighting following the completion of a project to install 113 solar-powered streetlights.
The Municipality of Walvis Bay said the project cost N$6.1 million, including VAT, and was introduced as an interim lighting solution for areas where residents are already living. The streetlights operate independently of the conventional electricity grid, providing lighting while permanent electricity infrastructure is still being developed. According to the Municipality, the solar-powered lights can also be converted to operate from the conventional electricity supply once permanent infrastructure becomes available. This means the investment can continue to benefit residents in the future.
The Municipality is also working on other infrastructure projects in Farm 37. Construction of a pump station began in July 2026, at a cost of approximately N$24 million. The project is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027. The pump station will form part of the infrastructure needed to support the continued development of the area. While the completion of the streetlight project addresses the immediate need for public lighting in Farm 37 Portion 10, the Municipality said it was continuing efforts to extend lighting to the remaining portions of Farm 37, as well as Farm 37 Extensions 1 and 2.
The Municipality said these projects form part of its ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and services for residents and support the long-term development of Farm 37.
