
A 67-year-old woman has died following a motor vehicle accident on the B2 road between Okahandja and Karibib this morning.
According to Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula of the Erongo Police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:58 about seven kilometres from Karibib. It is alleged that a 46-year-old Namibian man was driving a white Toyota Quantum minibus, towing a trailer, from Rehoboth via Karibib to Walvis Bay with 13 passengers on board when he lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash.
One of the passengers, Stella Johanna Orren (67), sadly succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.
Six passengers, aged between 10 and 59, sustained serious to moderate injuries, while another six passengers, aged between 5 and 52, escaped unharmed. The driver sustained only slight injuries. An alcohol test conducted on the driver indicated zero consumption.
All injured individuals were transported to Usakos State Hospital for medical treatment.
Police investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
The Erongo police have extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends. The police also urge all road users to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and ensure that vehicles are roadworthy at all times to help prevent similar incidents.
