Construction work to raise the boundary wall at the Kuisebmund Cemetery is expected to start this week.

The Municipality of Walvis Bay has handed the site over to Vitz Investment CC, which will carry out the work over a period of about two months. The project, valued at N$148 135.63, involves adding three brick courses to the existing 1 215-metre-long wall. This will increase the height of the wall by approximately half a metre. Municipal Civil Technician Eric Shinyemba is overseeing the project.

The contractor will carry out the work without subcontractors and will be responsible for providing the necessary workers, equipment and protective clothing. According to the municipality, the project is expected to be completed by mid-November. Weekly technical meetings will be held to monitor the progress and quality of the work. Residents living near the cemetery are also being asked to take note of the construction. The municipality says residents who have structures that encroach onto the cemetery boundary must remove them before construction starts.

These structures need to be cleared to allow the contractor access to the area where work will take place. Residents are therefore urged to make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible to avoid disruptions once construction begins.
