Man dies 1

A 31-year-old man died after being stabbed while allegedly trying to stop a fight in Mondesa, Swakopmund.

According to Erongo Police spokesperson Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, the incident occurred on Friday, 29 May at around 22:50 in front of a bar in Mandume Ndemufayo Street. It is alleged that a fight involving a group of people broke out across the street.

The deceased, identified as Penias Peipawa Paulus, reportedly crossed the road in an attempt to intervene and stop the altercation. During the incident, Paulus was allegedly stabbed once in the left side of his chest with an unknown object. He then reportedly crossed back to the bar, where he collapsed at the entrance. Paramedics from the Swakopmund Municipality responded to the scene and found him unresponsive. His body was transported to Swakopmund State Hospital, where he was certified dead.

Police arrested three Namibian men, all aged 20, in connection with the incident. The suspects appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 2 June. They were not granted bail, and the matter was postponed to 12 August to allow for further police investigations.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed. Police investigations into the murder are continuing.
