The Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced the official reopening of the Mondesa Clinic in Swakopmund on Monday, 2 February 2026, following the completion of renovation work.

The clinic was temporarily closed following a fire incident which occurred on 3 February 2025, which necessitated extensive renovations.

According to the Erongo Regional Council’s Directorate of Health and Social Services, all renovation work has now been completed, and all health services previously offered at the clinic will be fully restored.

The February 2025-fire caused damage to the facility’s infrastructure, pharmacy, medical supplies and registers (revenue books). Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, who was the spokesperson for the Erongo Police at the time, reported that a security guard on duty at the clinic apparently heard multiple explosions before a neighbour arrived to alert her that the clinic was on fire. “The guard immediately informed her supervisor, who then contacted the Swakopmund Municipality Fire Department.  Firefighters responded to the scene and managed to contain the blaze before it could spread further,” Shapumba stated.

It is suspected the fire originated in the pharmacy and according to Shapumba the consultation rooms remained largely intact, with only minor damage to medications and electronic equipment. No injuries or fatalities were reported

Dr. Anna Jonas, the Erongo Health Director, expressed appreciation to the Mondesa community for their patience and understanding during the closure period and apologised for any inconvenience caused. Upon reopening, the clinic will operate during the following hours, Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 17:00 and Saturdays: 08:00 – 17:00.
