Motorists Get Two More Months

Motorists with outstanding traffic admission-of-guilt fines have been given two more months to settle their debts, following an extension of the nationwide amnesty from 1 October to 30 November.

The Office of the Judiciary, in collaboration with the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL), announced the extension after receiving overwhelming requests from motorists who needed additional time to settle outstanding fines.

The amnesty, initially announced on 3 August 2026, was due to expire on 30 September. The Judiciary said the extension was prompted by the positive response to the programme and thanked members of the public who had already settled their outstanding fines.

The extension applies specifically to the payment of outstanding traffic admission-of-guilt fines. However, the Judiciary warned that the amnesty does not automatically cancel outstanding warrants of arrest or further court proceedings. “Any outstanding warrant of arrest and further court action will be dealt with by the court in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Act, Act No. 51 of 1977,” the notice states.

How an individual matter is dealt with remains subject to the direction of the presiding magistrate and applicable legal procedures. Motorists can settle their outstanding fines in person at the court where the Notice to Appear in Court was issued, with payments accepted from Monday to Friday during normal working hours. Alternatively, payments can be made through electronic funds transfer (EFT) into the designated account of the relevant District Court.

Motorists paying by EFT must use the summons number printed in red at the top right-hand corner of the Notice to Appear in Court as the reference number, together with the name of the relevant court listed as the “place of trial”. Proof of payment and the relevant reference number must then be submitted to the designated contact person at the applicable District Court.

For motorists along the coast, the designated Swakopmund District Court account is: Office of the Judiciary Swakopmund Sub-District FNB Account: 64292414081. The listed contact person is Ms Annatjie Malapi, who can be reached through the contact details provided by the Judiciary.

The Swakopmund District Court’s jurisdiction listed in the notice includes Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Usakos, Karibib and Omaruru. The Judiciary and NAMPOL are urging all affected motorists to use the extended period to settle their outstanding admission-of-guilt fines within the prescribed period.

The authorities stressed that motorists requiring assistance or clarification should approach court personnel at the relevant District Court.
