Concerns have been raised about water observed on a street behind Seagulls Mall in Walvis Bay, near businesses including a bakery and a pharmacy.
Residents sent photographs of the water to the Namib Times and expressed concern about the situation. The Namib Times contacted the Walvis Bay Municipality’s public relations officer, Anita Kaihiva, for clarification on the matter. In response, the Municipality said construction activities on private property were the responsibility of the appointed contractor, who was expected to manage the work properly and address any issues arising during construction. “The Municipality’s building inspectors carry out the necessary inspections and perform their regulatory duties in relation to such developments,” the Municipality stated.
It further advised that concerns relating to municipal services, including wastewater infrastructure, could be reported through the Municipality’s usual reporting channels for assessment and appropriate action. The Municipality’s response did not confirm whether the water observed behind the mall had been identified as wastewater, what had caused it, or whether an inspection had been conducted or was planned.
Residents who have concerns about possible wastewater leaks or problems with municipal infrastructure are encouraged to report them to the Municipality for investigation.
