Namibia’s archery team produced an outstanding performance at the 15th African Archery Championships, returning home with an impressive haul of seven medals after six days of competition in Oran Algeria.

The championships, held from 21 to 26 July, saw Namibian archers excel across compound and para-compound divisions, underlining the country’s growing strength on the continental stage. Leading the medal charge was Saimi Shilunga, who struck gold in the Para Compound Women category. Jacqueline Coetzee added another gold by claiming the Compound Women title, while Jannie Meuwesen was crowned African Compound Men’s champion after a dominant campaign.

Meuwesen also teamed up with Elisabeth Taljaard to secure Namibia’s fourth gold medal in the Compound Mixed Team event.

The silver medals came courtesy of De-Villiers Visser, who finished runner-up in the Para Compound Men division, while Taljaard added to Namibia’s success with second place in the Compound Women category.

Alvin Iita completed the medal tally by earning bronze in the Para Compound Men competition.

Namibia’s final haul of four gold, two silver and one bronze medal ranked among the country’s strongest performances at the continental championships, reflecting the dedication of the athletes, coaches and support staff. The achievements further highlight the continued growth of archery in Namibia and reinforce the country’s ability to compete successfully against Africa’s best.

Officials congratulated the athletes, coaches and team management on their exceptional performances, praising their commitment and determination in proudly raising the Namibian flag on the continental stage.
