The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) and the Namibia Football Association (NFA) will officially launch the Namport-sponsored football leagues on 7 November 2026 at Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay, marking the beginning of a landmark partnership aimed at revitalising football across Namibia.
The sponsorship is the first of its kind in the country, with a single sponsor supporting all NFA leagues, including the Namibia Premier Football League, First Divisions, Regional Second and Third Divisions, Women’s Regional Leagues and the Futsal Namibia League.
The initiative will benefit clubs, players and match officials in all 121 constituencies across Namibia’s 14 regions. To promote transparency and accountability, Namport will administer the sponsorship funds directly, releasing payments in phases and only after previous allocations have been fully accounted for. All expenditure must be football-related.
Namport CEO Andrew Kanime said the investment aligns with the objectives of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), which recognises sport as a driver of youth development, employment and livelihoods.
NFA President Robert Shimooshili welcomed the sponsorship, saying it would provide players and coaches with regular competitive football, a critical factor in strengthening national teams and developing talent.
The partnership is expected to create clear pathways from grassroots football to elite competition while also stimulating economic activity in host towns. The official launch will feature several football fixtures, with further details to be announced by the NFA. Photo: Archive
