The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) continues to demonstrate that its role extends beyond facilitating trade and logistics, with the state-owned enterprise expanding its social investment programme through initiatives that are improving education, healthcare and the well-being of vulnerable communities across the country.
Through the Namport Social Investment Fund (NSIF), the company has invested millions of dollars in projects aimed at enhancing access to quality healthcare, strengthening education infrastructure and providing support to disadvantaged communities. One of the fund’s latest outreach initiatives saw blankets worth N$58 870.80 distributed to elderly residents of Masivi Village in the Kapako Constituency of the Kavango West Region. The donation was handed over by Namport Executive for Commercial Services, Elias Mwenyo, as part of the company’s winter support programme. “This gesture reflects Namport’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our communities and sharing warmth where it is needed most,” the company said.
In another major investment, the NSIF donated two fully equipped ambulances valued at N$2.7 million to the Ministry of Health and Social Services. The ambulances have been deployed to the Kalkfeld and Gam districts in the Otjozondjupa Region, where they are expected to strengthen emergency medical services and improve access to healthcare in rural communities. Education has also remained a priority for the fund. Earlier this year, Namport donated desks and chairs worth N$400 000 to Noordgrens Secondary School and Ndiyona Secondary School in the Kavango East Region.
The furniture was manufactured by the Rundu Vocational Training Centre, supporting local skills development while improving classroom learning conditions. “Every learner deserves the opportunity to succeed, and meaningful community investment creates lasting impact for generations to come,” Namport said. Further reinforcing its commitment to education, the NSIF recently inaugurated a new Administration Block at Muketela Primary School in the Zambezi Region.
The project, valued at more than N$1.14 million, provides educators with improved office space, enhanced administrative facilities and secure storage for school records and educational materials. The inauguration was officiated by Deputy Director for the Zambezi Region, Norah Munembo, representing Regional Director Alex Sikume, together with Namport Social Investment Fund Trustee Alushe Hitula.
According to Namport, the investments form part of its broader corporate social responsibility strategy aimed at creating sustainable, long-term benefits for communities across Namibia. By investing in healthcare, education and social welfare, the company says it remains committed to building stronger communities and improving lives while contributing to the country’s long-term social and economic development.
