The Protea by Marriott Walvis Bay Indongo Hotel, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay, has raised N$40 000 towards the establishment of a milk bank at Welwitschia Hospital through a successful Quiz Night fundraiser in support of MI-Care Maternal & Infant Care.

The sold-out event attracted 140 participants from the Walvis Bay community for an evening of trivia, laughter, friendly competition and fundraising. The strong turnout highlighted the willingness of local businesses, organisations and individuals to support initiatives aimed at improving maternal and infant wellbeing.

Among the guests were former Walvis Bay mayor and councillor Buddy Bramwell and his wife, Ana Bramwell. The evening was hosted by Protea by Marriott Walvis Bay Indongo Hotel General Manager Amalia Peake, who also took on the role of Quiz Master.

Peake said the success of the fundraiser had prompted the hotel to make the Quiz Night an annual event. She further encouraged members of the community to nominate a non-profit organisation, community organisation or worthy initiative that could become the beneficiary of next year’s fundraising efforts.

The organisers said the N$40 000 contribution represents a meaningful investment towards the MI-Care milk bank initiative, which seeks to support mothers, infants and families in the community. The fundraising event also provided an opportunity for the hotel and Rotary Club to strengthen their collaboration while bringing the broader Walvis Bay community together around a shared social cause.

The top-performing teams on the night were Change Makers, sponsored by PKF, in first place, followed by The Corkscrew Crew in second and Quizbusters in third. The Protea by Marriott Walvis Bay Indongo Hotel and Rotary Club of Walvis Bay expressed their appreciation to all participants, sponsors, prize donors, volunteers and members of the community who contributed to the success of the event. The organisers described the evening as an example of what can be achieved when local businesses, organisations and residents work together behind a common purpose.

With N$40 000 raised and plans already in place to make the event an annual fundraiser, the Quiz Night has established itself as both a community-building initiative and a platform for supporting causes that can make a tangible difference in Walvis Bay.
