For Walvis Bay born author Estelle Tjipuka, being named a finalist for Author of the Year 2026 at the International Impact Book Awards in Hollywood was about more than recognition. It was an opportunity to put Namibia’s stories on the global stage and inspire a new generation of local authors to dream beyond borders.
Reflecting on her Hollywood experience, Tjipuka said not every stage was about winning a trophy, but about strategic positioning, global visibility and building connections that could open doors to new opportunities.
The milestone, she said, allowed her to represent Namibia internationally, establish meaningful connections and demonstrate that stories from the country deserve to be seen, heard and celebrated around the world. “Recognition is an achievement. Visibility is an opportunity. But what we do with that visibility determines our lasting impact,” Tjipuka said.
For the Namibian author, the greater purpose of the experience was to challenge geographical barriers and help pave the way for other Namibian writers to reach international platforms. She said her ambition was never simply to reach Hollywood, but to show aspiring authors that international recognition was within their reach, regardless of where they came from. “If my journey inspires another Namibian author to believe that Hollywood is within reach, then this milestone has served a purpose far greater than any trophy,” she said.
Tjipuka described her achievement as a reminder that talent and excellence are not limited by nationality or geography. Her message to aspiring writers is clear: Namibian stories have a place on the world stage, and local authors should not be afraid to pursue opportunities beyond the country’s borders.
“Talent has no nationality. Excellence has no borders. And greatness has no geographical address!” she said. Photos contributed.
