Saipem, in collaboration with Rhino Resources, recently hosted a Leadership in Health and Safety workshop in Swakopmund to promote a strong safety culture in Namibia’s growing oil and gas industry.

The workshop was one of Saipem’s first major initiatives since establishing a permanent presence in Namibia earlier this year. Saipem is a global leader in engineering services for the design, construction and operation of complex infrastructures and plants in the energy sector, both offshore and onshore. The event brought together representatives from Rhino Resources, contractors, local authorities and other key industry stakeholders. According to Saipem, the workshop provided an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and strengthen their commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards across the sector.

Discussions focused on safety leadership and the latest best practices in health and safety management. Participants also explored the importance of human performance principles and creating working environments that support both operational and psychological safety. The workshop highlighted the need to strengthen safety measures and promote “fail-safe” practices throughout all operations. Saipem said Namibia is rapidly emerging as an important player in the global oil and gas industry, making safety awareness and high operational standards essential for the sector’s sustainable growth.

The company added that sharing international experience and industry best practices will help develop local skills and strengthen Namibia’s energy industry. Saipem believes collaboration between industry stakeholders, investment in local expertise and maintaining high safety standards will play an important role in supporting the country’s responsible and sustainable energy development.
