Police in Walvis Bay are investigating a case of attempted murder following an incident in the Dune 7 vicinity on Friday at approximately 2:00.

According to the Namibian Police Force (Nampol) weekend serious crime and incident report, it is alleged that a suspected thief attempted to steal items under the guard of a security officer.

“The victim (suspected thief) allegedly ran towards the security guard, armed with a knife, whereupon the guard shot at him with rubber bullets, striking him on the feet and in the stomach,” the report states.

The injured individual was transported to the Walvis Bay State Hospital for medical treatment. He has been identified as a 21-year-old Namibian male and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
