Swakop Uranium showcased its achievements in safety, innovation and community development at the 2026 Mining Expo & Conference, reinforcing its commitment to responsible mining and creating value beyond mining.
The company was recognised for its strong safety performance after winning the 2025 Inter-Mine Safety Competition in Category 1, Division A. Swakop Uranium also received recognition at the 2026 Mining Expo & Conference, where it was named First Runner-Up in the Best Stand Competition.
A major highlight of the expo was a visit by President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to the Swakop Uranium stand. The President engaged with senior management and was briefed on uranium mining and its role in the global energy chain. Technical models and interactive displays provided visitors with insight into uranium processing and its application in nuclear power generation.
The company also officially launched the 9th Swakop Uranium Husab Marathon, scheduled for 15 August 2026 at Husab Mine. The event has attracted a record 3,530 registered participants, making it the biggest edition in the marathon’s history. The race is recognised as a qualifying event for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans Marathon. Namibian music star Gazza will headline the entertainment programme, with the event promoting fitness, family participation and community spirit.
At the conference, Swakop Uranium Executive Vice President Irvinne Simataa participated in industry discussions under the theme, “From Dialogue to Delivery: Assessing Progress in Creating Mining-led Economic Growth and Employment since NamPPF.” Discussions included Namibia’s mining project pipeline, safety culture and the role of mining in driving economic growth and employment.
The company’s achievements reflect its broader HUSAB+ vision of creating value beyond mining through people, innovation, partnerships and sustainability.
Swakop Uranium’s participation at the expo demonstrated a dual commitment to industry leadership and community impact, combining excellence in safety and responsible mining with initiatives that promote sport, health, culture and national development.
