A group of residents has taken matters into their own hands by cleaning up the busy trading area in front of Mondesa Woermann Brock.

The area has seen a steady increase in the number of traders over the years, but with more activity has also come more litter. Despite repeated warnings from the Swakopmund Municipality, the problem has continued. The municipality says keeping public spaces clean cannot be left to the municipality alone. The municipality is  appealing to both traders and residents to play their part by cleaning up after themselves and making sure that waste is placed in the correct bins or disposed of responsibly.

Residents who took part in the clean-up showed that small actions can make a difference when people take responsibility for the areas they use every day.  A clean environment is not only more pleasant for residents and visitors but also helps to create a healthier and more hygienic community. The municipality urged people not to wait for someone else to clean up after them.
