An American technology company, 6th Grain, has secured a US$2.4 million (about N$43 million) contract with Namibia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Land Reform and Water Resources to introduce advanced crop monitoring technology across the country’s staple food sectors.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Namibia, the project will use artificial intelligence (AI), satellite images and geospatial technology to help improve agricultural planning and decision-making. The system will be used for crop mapping, land suitability studies, pasture monitoring and agricultural planning for important food crops, including maize, millet, mahangu, sorghum and wheat. T

he embassy said the project will not only provide new technology, as part of the agreement, 6th Grain will also transfer the software, AI models and technical knowledge to the ministry through practical training. This will allow Namibia to manage and expand the system independently in the future. The U.S. Embassy welcomed the partnership, saying it highlights how American innovation and expertise can support Namibia’s agricultural development while strengthening commercial ties between the two countries.

The embassy added that it remains committed to supporting American companies that bring innovative solutions to Namibia and create new opportunities for cooperation between the United States and Namibia.
