WFF Namibia returned home with medals, pride and a renewed ambition to put Namibia on the African Bodybuilding map after competing at the 2026 Africa Bodybuilding Championship recently held in Ghana.
The Namibian delegation overcame significant travel challenges before reaching Ghana, with visa and flight complications forcing the team to postpone its original Tuesday departure to Wednesday.
Despite the stressful start, the team remained determined and went on to deliver an impressive performance at the continental championship. Trust Sesoho claimed a silver medal in the Bermunder Junior category, while WFF Namibia President Gylgrister Evaristor secured two gold medals, adding to Namibia’s growing presence in African bodybuilding.
The journey home proved almost as memorable as the competition itself. Wearing their medals and proudly waving Namibian flags throughout their return journey, the team said they were treated like celebrities, with fellow travellers and members of the public showing genuine excitement and congratulating them on their achievements.
For the athletes, the warm reception was a powerful reminder of the growing interest and support for bodybuilding in Namibia. Evaristor also praised the Ghanaian hosts for what he described as exceptional hospitality and professional event organisation.
The experience has now sparked an ambitious possibility, bringing the Africa Bodybuilding Championship to Namibia in 2027. Hosting the continental competition would give Namibia an opportunity to showcase its bodybuilding talent, hospitality and organisational capacity while bringing some of Africa’s best athletes to the country.
The team also extended its appreciation to Namport, which was credited as a key supporter of the delegation from the beginning. WFF Namibia said the support from Namport played an important role in making the team’s participation possible and contributing to its successful return with medals.
For the Namibian bodybuilding fraternity, the Ghana trip has therefore delivered more than medals, it has strengthened confidence that Namibia can compete, host and shine on the African stage.
