Namibia’s growing reputation for producing world-class sports administrators has received another major boost following the appointment of two distinguished Namibians to influential international sporting bodies.
The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has congratulated Otto Nakapunda and Hillary Imbuwa on their appointments, describing the achievements as a proud moment for the country and a testament to the quality of Namibian sports leadership.
Nakapunda has been appointed Secretary General of the Africa Chess Federation, assuming a key executive role responsible for supporting the development and growth of chess across the African continent. The appointment recognises his extensive experience in sports administration and his commitment to advancing the game of chess.
Imbuwa has meanwhile been named a Sports Management and Administration Expert for the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). His appointment to the global advisory role reflects international recognition of his expertise in sports governance, administration, management and operational excellence.
The NSC said the appointments are not only significant personal achievements but also an endorsement of Namibia’s ability to produce highly skilled sports administrators capable of contributing on the continental and global stage.
According to the Commission, the appointments align with its long-term vision of positioning Namibia as a recognised sporting nation known for excellence in governance, administration and sporting development.
The Commission expressed confidence that both Nakapunda and Imbuwa will serve with integrity, professionalism and vision, making meaningful contributions to the continued growth of chess and volleyball while enhancing Namibia’s standing in international sport.
On behalf of the Namibian sporting community, the NSC extended its best wishes to both administrators as they embark on their new responsibilities, expressing optimism that their leadership will further strengthen Namibia’s presence and influence in global sport.
