Sandro De Gouveia and Corne Pitout emerged as the big winners when Walvis Bay Golf Club hosted the 11th round of the Nedbank for Good Series this past weekend.

A field of 56 players, including visitors from across the country, took to the course for a highly competitive round that was also praised for the excellent condition of the meticulously maintained golf course.

Local favourite and one of Namibia’s biggest supporters of golf, De Gouveia produced an outstanding performance to claim the men’s division with an impressive 44 points. He finished four points ahead of his closest challenger, Grant Mather, who carded an excellent one-under-par gross score to finish second on 40 points. Wynand Breytenbach Snr took third place, followed by Joao Borges in fourth, while Simon Thompson completed the men’s top five.

In the ladies’ division, Corne Pitout showed her class by collecting 42 points to secure the title. Pitout finished two points ahead of Rina Knight of Rossmund Golf Club, who claimed second place. Mariena Ludwig finished third, followed by Estelle Bothma in fourth and Suene Venter in fifth.

The Walvis Bay round was not only highlighted by quality golf but also by the impressive condition of the course, with praise going to the club committee and course staff for presenting a neat and well-manicured playing surface.

Meanwhile, Walvis Bay Golf Club’s next major event is the Concord 3-Ball Alliance Yellow Ball Day on 12 September, an event regarded as one of the highlights on the club’s annual calendar.

The Nedbank for Good Series now moves to Henties Bay Golf & Lifestyle Estate for Round 12, which will also be the final round of the coastal leg.
