Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Dino Ballotti has urged Namibia’s 12 athletes selected Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled for 31 October to 13 November in Senegal, to compete with courage, discipline and pride as they prepare to represent the country on the international stage.
Speaking on behalf of Minister Dr Sanet Steenkamp at the official flag handover ceremony, Ballotti described the athletes as ambassadors of the nation, carrying the hopes and aspirations of their families, schools, communities and the country. He encouraged the young competitors to work hard, seize the opportunity to learn from the Olympic experience and uphold the values of respect, humility and sportsmanship.
Ballotti reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sport, highlighting its elevated status under Namibia’s Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), where it has been identified as Priority Number Two. He said sport should be viewed not merely as recreation, but as a strategic investment in national development, education and economic growth.
The Deputy Minister also called for stronger partnerships between government, sporting organisations, schools, communities and the private sector to strengthen Namibia’s sporting ecosystem, identify emerging talent and create more opportunities for young athletes. “We wish you safe travels, successful participation and an unforgettable Olympic experience,” Ballotti said.
