The police at Henties Bay are investigating a case of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft after a 79-year-old male pensioner’s home at the town was ransacked by at least five alleged armed suspects on Saturday morning, 8 August 2026, at around 2:00.
As per the Nampol weekend serious crime and incident report it is alleged that the suspects, armed with a panga, knives and iron bars forced open one of the windows of the complainant’s house to gain entry and took properties to an estimated value of N$60 000. The stolen items include a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine and license.
No recovery of the stolen items, nor arrests have been made yet and the police investigation is ongoing.
As the official Nampol report, which was issued to all National media houses yesterday (Sunday, 9 August 2026) wasn’t vivid on exactly how the police at Henties Bay could report on the alleged weapons the suspects had, nor how they know how many suspects were involved, Namib Times sent questions in this regard to Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi (National Nampol Public Relations Officer) and also to the Erongo Nampol spokesperson, Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula. Our questions were: “Was the complainant present at the scene and if yes, was he injured, tied up or what exactly happened? Also, if yes, shouldn’t it be a case of armed robbery?” We are awaiting response from Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi. Senior Inspector Shomongula responded and noted that she did contact the investigating officer in this regard. An update is expected.
