Golfers enjoyed another memorable day on the course on Saturday as the ever-popular Concord Yellow-Ball Day attracted a field of 36 players and plenty of competitive action at Walvis Bay Golf Club.
Taking top honours were Armstrong Muzvondiwa, Robert Muzuza and new member Onesmus Kamenye, who combined for an impressive 112 points to claim first place. They were followed by Thomas Wolff, Willie Venter and Bertus Venter, who finished runners-up on 108 points. Third place went to Johnny Borges, Michael De Barros and club president John Sardinha, who carded 104 points.
The nearest-to-the-pin prizes also produced some good performances. Pierre Sowden won on hole 2/11, while Francois Champion took the honours on hole 18. Four players managed to record two clubs during the competition, with Bertus Venter, Tertius Myburgh, Wanye Hart and Francois Champion all finding the target.
Concord has already committed to returning as sponsor next year, ensuring that golfers can look forward to another Yellow-Ball challenge. A big thank you goes to Johnny and his team for hosting a successful event, with Concord once again showing its strong commitment to supporting local golf.
In last Wednesday’s competition, Hannes Crafford claimed victory with 24 points, followed by Bertus Fokkens on 21 and Sam Nel on 20. Thursday’s seniors’ competition was won by Robert Moyce with 41 points. Hoffie Viljoen finished second on 39, while Bossie Bosman took third place with 34 points.
The brood prize went to Willie Van Wyk. Looking ahead, the course will be closed for maintenance from 21 to 27 September.
Upcoming events include the Multisave Medal on 19 September, Green Maintenance on 21 and 26 September, Greenkeepers Revenge on 3 October, Plastic Packaging Individual Stableford on 10 October, and Local Sages on 11 October.
